Social synthesis workshop 1 (8 - 20 September 2014)

Case study researchers from Peru, Nepal, Ethiopia, and Kyrgysztan gathered at the Public Administration and Policy Group, Wageningen University, over the course of two days to present and discuss methods and findings from the baseline study conducted so far with project partners from Wageningen University, Imperial College, the University of Birmingham and the University of Antwerp. Cross-cutting themes were identified, for example, that water for crop production and communal land for livestock grazing were the main ecosystem services in all case studies. Researchers focussing on the social analysis of the project remained at Wageningen to participate in capacity building activities, as well as to refine the methodologies to conduct the participatory rural appraisal, which is expected to be completed at the end of the project's first year.
